Mercy is pleased to offer the services of a Certified Diabetic Educator. Diabetes Education offers one-on-one education with patients and families who are newly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 or Type 2 or Gestational Diabetes.  Education includes information on the physiology of diabetes and ways to control it with diet, exercise, and medications.  Instructions are given on monitoring blood sugars at home and how to recognize and treat episodes of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.  Follow-up evaluation and downloading of home glucometers are also provided to assist in regulating medications and adjusting treatment.
