Central Service Tech
Title: Central Service Tech
Department: Operating Room
Primary Duties: Performs all competencies listed in Job Specific Competency Checklist for Central Service Technician. Realizing that sterility is an absolute necessity, uses the utmost care with sterilizing, packaging, maintaining and delivery sterilized supplies. An attest is run with each gas sterilization load and appropriate testing and record keeping done. A sterilization log is maintained for each load and each item is properly identified. Sterilization records are filed daily. Will ensure that all items are properly packaged according to established procedures. Loads and unloads sterilizers according to established procedures. Delivers items to proper departments daily, anticipating the needs of the departments as indicated by the census, etc...Makes supply rounds promptly and willingly respond to stat requests within three minutes. Is conscientious in maintaining stored supplies, ensuring they are in the proper environment and routinely checks for outdated supplies, updating as indicated. Biological monitoring is done occasionally to policy and procedures. Understands infection control and decontamination procedures and handles contaminated supplies accordingly. Wears proper attire in the decontamination area at all times. Wears proper attire in the clean central service area and operating room area at all times. Keeps the decontamination area at its utmost of cleanliness at all times. The supplies and equipment used in central service and the operating room are conscientiously monitored and maintained. Maintains the stock levels, ordering supplies as needed. Counts and refills operating room and central service shelves daily, ordering supplies as needed. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment stored in the central service. Sends repair requests as needed. Communicates with the Director of Operative Services about equipment breakdown. Completes central service charges daily.

Qualifications: Education: High School or GED
Previous experience with sterilizers, instrument wrapping, decomtamination of instuments perferred; however, we are able to provide on the job training. Required licensure/certification: CPR (Classes available onsite).
