In the Fall of 2003, Williston youth in grades 6-12 completed the Search Institute Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors, which is a tool for assessing the health and well-being of middle and high school age youth. The survey results show that Williston possesses only 17.7 of the 40 assets that our youth need to grow into caring, competent adults.
To view the 40 developmental assets identified by the Search Institute, please visit the Search Institute's website.
Mercy Medical Center's parent organization, Catholic Health Initiatives, has awarded a $209,500 grant to support Healthy Williston . . . Healthy Youth, which is a program that serves as a vehicle to share resources and partner with organizations that are taking an active role in building assets in youth to create a healthier community.
The Healthy Williston . . . Healthy Youth coalition is made up of members representing various sectors of the community including education, churches, law enforcement, healthcare, city government, youth, businesses, media, parks & recreation, agriculture/oil industry, service clubs, and senior citizens. The coalition is committed to building assets in our community and to educating the public on how easy it is to make a positive difference in the life of a young person.
